ycamp was, in summary, really fun, touching, but exhausting.i'm missing it badly already:( i like my group alot..nice people and nice benes helped a great deal in making my first ycamp experience unforgettable.. this is my first time being assigned a bene to take care of and i was full of ideas about how we were going to have lots of fun..however, things turned slightly challenging as the day progressed because she was not one to express herself, not when she was sad, not when she was happy, not to cheer or sing, not even when i talked to her..i did my best to engage her and teach her stuff..first of which was that we must go everywhere together because she keeps walking away when my back is turned and she walks really fast-.- that alone wasn't easy..and i tried to teach her my name (butty)..by the end of the first day during night activity, i was kind of emotionally drained..very fortunately i had this totally random joking/suanning session with a random groupmate, which was oddly refreshing..and i was recharged again.. everyone was much closer on the 2nd day, with the benes too..i taught my bene pepsi-cola and my signature finger-wave thing, i tried to get her to stop biting her nails, i taught her to peel an orange, i taught her my name again etc etc..i have to admit i was quite sad that she just cant seem to remember my name.. however, things started improving..after all my efforts, she started cheering and singing along..the first time she did, i turned around in surprise and stared at her, not knowing how to react..then, whenever we sat down, she'd pull my hand and pat at the space beside her..and when i asked her to drink up, she'd pass me my bottle too..she actually recognises my ice mountain plastic bottle!i brimmed with so much pride!however..she still cant remember my name:\ lots of things happened along the way, all tiny little things, that spurred me on. i was determined to make this a memorable one for my bene.. on the last day, my heart was heavy..all through the final cheerings and card making, i just couldnt smile..i tried not to talk in case i started crying..but when the buses started arriving, i broke down..my bene turned and looked at me..she turned away..when she turned to look again..i saw she was crying..that was honestly unexpected, and it made me cry even harder..again, unexpectedly, she offered me hug..when i said bye to her before she boarded, she said "bye butty"..and i just cried and cried... sigh it's over..the best camp ever..and all the friends i made, the bullyings, and the late night talks... i still cant believe this just happened to me. |
